Presentation Tips
Introduction

Dentistry continues to be both an art and a science. The application of the science of materials and techniques allows the clinician to artistically and faithfully reproduce natural esthetics. Newly developed AI tools are aiding clinicians and patients in practice today. However, communicating the subjective aspects of care to patients can still be a challenge.

AI-enhanced treatment visualization

Pre- and post-treatment still photography of outcomes has long been used to communicate what previous outcomes have looked like and can serve as an invaluable tool in helping patients understand potential results. While patients may be able to visualize what to expect from their own treatment in this way, it still relies heavily on the patient’s immagination. Thus, there is the possibility of misunderstanding if the treatment outcome does not match the patient’s expectations, particularlly with regard to esthetics. Recent advances in AI-generated simulation software may allow for more lifelike images and even videos generated from still photos, helping patients better visualize potential treatment outcomes. Accurate and well-positioned photos will be a prerequisite to obtain the best results from these applications.
