Simon Storgård Jensen
Prof. Dr. Simon Storgård Jensen is a consultant in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Copenhagen University Hospital and professor at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, Department of Odontology, Section for Oral Biology and Immunopathology at the University of Copenhagen. He received his DDS from the University of Copenhagen in 1996 and was certified as a specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2004. Prof. Storgård Jensen has been an ITI Fellow since 2004 as well as Education Delegate (2005-2015) and Chair of the ITI Section Denmark (2015-2018). His main research areas include implant dentistry, bone grafting materials and bone augmentation procedures. His research has been presented worldwide in lectures, textbooks, and articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Ankylosis may occur after traumatic dental injuries and especially after luxation-type injuries. Ankylosis may progress slowly or fast but will eventually lead to loss of the tooth. In growing individuals, ankylosis leads to infraposition of the affected tooth. For the same reason, implant treatment is not recommended before alveolar growth has terminated to avoid implant infraposition.
