Mauricio Araújo
Prof. Dr. Mauricio Araújo is a periodontist working in private practice in Rio de Janeiro and at the State University of Maringa, Parana, Brazil. He completed his PhD at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden in 1998. He is the Chairman of the Perio/Implant Research Unit, State University of Maringá. Together with his co-workers, he has published groundbreaking research in the fields of ridge alterations following tooth extraction, ridge preservation, bone formation in extraction sockets and immediate implant placement. He is an Honorary Board member of the Osteology Foundation, an ITI Fellow, former Chair of the ITI Section Brazil and ITI Research Committee member. He is a member of the editorial board of several journals.

The 7th ITI Consensus Conference was held in Lisbon, May 2023. A total of five areas in the field of implant dentistry were identified to be addressed and covered, each assigned to a specific working group. The topic assigned to Group 4 was “patient benefits”. The group prepared three systematic reviews entitled 1) “Treatment effect of implant-supported fixed complete dentures and implant overdentures on patient-reported outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis”; 2) “Oral function in completely edentulous patients rehabilitated with implant-supported dental prostheses: A systematic review and meta-analysis”; and 3) “Effect of dental implant therapy on the preservation of orofacial tissues: A systematic review and meta-analysis”.
