Craig M. Misch
Craig M. Misch, DDS, MDS has certificates in postgraduate prosthodontics, oral implantology as well as a Master of Dental Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Thereafter he became an Assistant Professor and acted as Co-Director of the University of Pittsburgh Oral Implantology Center. Dr. Misch then completed specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Pittsburgh and is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Misch now practices as a dual specialist in Sarasota, Florida at Misch Implant Dentistry. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania and Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Misch serves as Editor-in-Chief of The International Journal of Oral Implantology and serves on the editorial boards of several other journals. He has written over 50 peer-reviewed publications and 20 textbook chapters. Dr. Misch lectures worldwide on several topics, including bone augmentation, growth factors, short implants, implant prosthetics, surgical complications, and immediate loading.

Several techniques have been reported to obtain vertical bone gains, such as guided bone regeneration, distraction osteogenesis, onlay block grafts, interpositional grafts and the use of titanium mesh. According to the ITI SAC Classification (Dawson et al. 2021), these techniques are considered to be advanced to complex level procedures, and technique-sensitive to the experience of the operator.
